Calahonda<\/strong> is a border area between Mijas<\/a> and Marbella<\/a> in the municipality of Mijas. This is a large, private estate with the name of Sitio de Calahonda<\/em>, name of the homonymous beach there.<\/p>\n

Do not to be confused with the town of Calahonda in Motril, which we will talk about in another article.<\/p>\n

Getting to know Calahonda<\/h2>\n

This is a well-maintained urbanization<\/strong>, which has had some respect for the natural environment during the decades of its development by not exceeding 5 story building height. This is the reason it has been awarded the prestigious prize Award Jaguar<\/em> from the UK Parliament as the best urban development in Spain.<\/p>\n

As a curious fact stands out that its 27 kilometres of roads, 7,000 homes and 60.0000 square meters of green areas are maintained by their owners who are mostly British, Scandinavians and Germans.<\/p>\n

What to see and do<\/h2>\n

If you are going to live in Calahonda, you may be interested in knowing some of the main attractions in the area.<\/p>\n

Activities<\/h3>\n

The complex has its own 9 hole- golf course<\/strong> and 3 shopping centres<\/strong> (El Zoco, Los Olivos and Cipreses). There are also\u00a0 restaurants, cafes pubs, some banks, supermarkets and gym; otherwise the area is mainly dedicated to housing and features manicured greenery with many pine trees and palms.

Calahonda Chapel<\/h3>\n

At the top of the hill there is a recently built hermitage. The residents of Calahonda decided to take advantage of the remains of a filming to build the current hermitage. This place is today a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the coast and where you can enjoy spectacular sunsets.
\n\"Calahonda<\/p>\n

From here you will have spectacular day and night views of the stars. There are no parking problems in the area.<\/p>\n

Calahonda Beach<\/h3>\n

Calahonda beach has golden sand and is semi-urban. You will find it between Cabopino beach and El Bombo beach.\u00a0It is 4400 metres long and has basic services and an average width of about 20 metres.<\/p>\n

Those who visit it highlight the cleanliness of its waters; it is ideal for scuba diving, and the fact that it has no road access make it more quiet than in others. We recommend parking in Avenida de Espa\u00f1a and walking about 200 metres.
\n\"Calahonda<\/p>\n

Senda Litoral (Coastal Path)<\/h3>\n

Another recent attraction in the area is the Senda del Litoral. This path is in part a wooden walkway along the coastline where you can enjoy a magnificent stroll. If you don’t feel like walking too much, you can use the Calahonda tourist train that runs through all the urbanisations.<\/p>\n

This path also offers different panels with information about the biological diversity of the area. It is a route for everyone, very comfortable and it does not require a great effort. It is part of the plan to link the whole province of Malaga along the coastline; this section we recommend links Calahonda with Cala de Mijas.<\/p>\n

Calahonda Park<\/span><\/h3>\n

Finally, there is a nice park easily accessible from the start of the Senda Litoral.\u00a0 Every year this park hosts the Calahonda Day celebration by the end of June with music, dancing and activities for children.<\/p>\n

In the park you will find a good place to go for a walk and there is also a playground for children to play.<\/p>\n

It has two entrances, one from Avenida de Espa\u00f1a and the other from the beginning of the Coastal Path at Luna Beach.<\/p>\n
